Once a week in July and August the Kleinarl lift company organises a sunrise tour. It means getting up before daybreak in order to experience the sunrise from a moutain peak. An alternative for late risers are the "light" walks. Right up until late evening the lift transports you up to where, equipped with lamps, you undertake an atmospheric walk down in the darkness.

The Tappenkarsee Lake
One of the most beautiful walking destinations in Kleinarl is the Tappenkarsee Lake. It lies at an altitude of 1,762 m and with an area of 31 hectares is one of the largest mountain lakes in the Eastern Alps. Embedded deeply between the rock faces it looks just like a Norwegian fjord to walkers, earning the fantastic view after a climb over a 680 m steep step along a well-constructed footpath. Over the centuries a whole host of legends have arisen surrounding the Tappenkarsee Lake. [ legend of the Tappenkarsee ]

The Ennskraxn
The Ennskraxn thrones majestically over Kleinarl and is visible from far away. Its name derives from the Enns river, which springs from within and from the Kraxn, a wooden frame upon which trading goods were transported by carriers over the mountains to the south in the olden days. Even today climbing the Ennskraxn presents a challenge for experienced hikers. The ascent is rewarded with an unforgettable view and the feeling of personal victory. |
